RIVERSIDE COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT ANNOUNCES OPENING
OF SOUTHWEST JUVENILE COURTHOUSE ON AUGUST 14, 2017

Release Date: August 10, 2017
Contact: Marita C. Ford, Public Information Officer

RIVERSIDE COUNTY: The Riverside County Superior Court is pleased to announce that the new Southwest Juvenile Courthouse will open to the public on August 14, 2017.

Located adjacent to the existing Southwest Justice Center on Auld Road in Murrieta, the 14,371 square foot facility will house two courtrooms, one devoted to juvenile delinquency and the other to juvenile dependency proceedings. With a budget of $15 million, the County of Riverside built the courthouse to replace outdated courtrooms in Indio that were vacated as part of the expansion of the Indio Jail.

The courthouse will help meet the needs of the fast growing population in the Mid County region of the county.

In addition to the two courtrooms, the courthouse contains a clerk’s office, a room for childcare services for litigants with court business, security offices and holding areas.

Since the Southwest Justice Center opened in 2003, juveniles in delinquency proceedings have been required to be transported by van from Juvenile Hall to the courthouse, then led through a secured area and upstairs to the courtroom. The new facility will be more efficient as it will allow juveniles awaiting court hearings to be directly transported through a secured walking corridor from the existing Juvenile Hall to the new courthouse. This enhances security for defendants, sheriff’s personnel, court staff, counsel, agency partners and the public.

Riverside County Third District Supervisor Chuck Washington, the court, and the Riverside County Economic Development Agency held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the courthouse on August 2, 2017.
